In terms of an alternative tailwheel system which uses the original tailwheel but decoupled by means of an idler plate and springs, why not use compression springs (shorter, more reliable and leaves abit of drive when they do break)? What I have in mind is something along the lines of the system of circumferential springs seen in many automotive clutch driven plates. The main downside as I see it is lack of adjustment other than changing spring rates. Duncan McFadyean |
