Well, I hate to have to do this, but I need to pass along word that Dan
Boyd crashed Europa N216JE on May 15. He and a passenger were leaving a
fly-in at Smiths Alabama in the late afternoon. Density altitude got the
best of him and he stalled trying to clear some powerlines at the end of
the runway. He got over the lines but dove in about 200 yards beyond the
runway end. As of tonight, he and Chuck are both still in ICU at a
hospital in Columbus Ga. They are both listed as stable. Dan has a closed
head injury, but is awake and alert--he also has lots of cuts on his face
and a broken nose. Chuck has a broken right leg, facial cuts and bruising,
and compression fractures of 4 lumbar vertibrae--no damage to his spinal
cord though.
They are VERY fortunate to be alive considering the angle of impact.
The plane is a total loss.
