Der Pilot Induced Oscillation, Tony, or 'pogo stick' effect. The plane
touches down a little heavily with excess flying speed and bounces
back into the air; the pilot then pushes the nose down and the plane
flies back onto the ground, bouncing back up again. This continues
until usually something breaks - the noseleg on trike undercarriages.
There are 3 ways out of it. The second is to hold the flying attitude
after the first bounce and flare correctly to slow the plane down and
land with the correct attitude and airspeed, the third (for a big
bounce) is to open the throttle and go round again. The first is to
get it right first time!
