Actually, there are some very nifty little _rate_ sensors
available--"gyros on a chip"--used in such things as r/c helicopter
autopilots. Probably not more than $200/axis.
They are nice chips but have you seen what you have to do to get a sensible
output
out of one!! I have a circuit that provides positional feedback into stereo
headsets ie - move your head towards the source and the volume adjusts
accordingly.
The amount of analogue circuitry that is required to just achieve this
single axis (and none critical) function is a bit more than the average builder
would like to consider. Making a three axis sensor of sufficient standard to
meet our needs would (as of writing) probably be prohibitive. Next week may
be a different matter!
