A lot of European aircraft (including some jets, etc.) have a little piece of aircraft cable bonded on to one of the landing gear forks such that it brushes the ground. Obviously, this is a "sacrificial" bit that needs to be replaced now and then, although swaging a piece of very hard material (e.g. a piece of Stellite arc welding rod) onto the end will increase the service life. |
