Tom - there is, to the best of my knowledge, NO Europa newsgroup on usenet.
(Anyone who knows better, please tell me!) There are occasional mentions of
the Europa on the rec.aviation.homebuilt newsgroup.
You have posted your message to the Europa e-mail list, which (I understand
---From Peter who manages it) is not possible unless you have already joined
it, so the quick answer is "do nothing, you're here already". The e-mail
list serves the same function as a usenet newsgroup in providing a forum
for discussion, but it uses different tools on both host and client
computer. An e-mail list was chosen in preference to a usenet newsgroup
because at the time it was set up, more people were likely to have e-mail
capability than a nntp newsreader, and so it would be more universally
accessible. If, as is more common nowadays, you are using a WWW browser for
all your interaction with the internet, you may not be aware of the
different protocols it is bringing into play to access different types of
service.
I am copying this message to your own address as well as to the list (sorry
folks for wasting your time again on admin) just in case my information is
wrong and you have been able to post a message here WITHOUT actually
joining the list. You can subscribe to the list by sending an e-mail
message to <europa-request@avnet.co.uk>. The BODY of the message should
include the words 'subscribe europa'. The subject line is not important,
but you may like to enter "subscribe europa" there too, to remind yourself
what it was for. To prevent the server trying to interpret it as a command,
switch off your signature if you have that option. You will then receive
all future contributions to the list. NOTE that the e-mail address for such
commands to the server (the computer that controls the list) is NOT the
same as the list address where you send messages for other Europa people to
read.
