I had a copy of a post (dated Thursday, November 20, 1997 11:27AM)
forwarded to me that was highly critical of me and US Aviator, and was
published to this list. If the writer had the sense and honor to contact me
before publishing such, I'd have told him that what they believed was
pretty much untrue and could document that fact. More important; the
stories that we publish in US Aviator are well researched and carefully
documented, despite the errant insinuation of the sender. I stand by the
stories in my magazine... and feel that it is unfortunate that someone
chose to mimic some mindless drivel that had been published elsewhere by
someone with a previous record of inaccurate statements, in an attempt to
squelch our efforts to protect our readership from that which we felt was
unethical, dangerous or otherwise gave us reason for concern.
This is not the forum to get into a pissing match and this is the last that
I will say about it here... but if you have questions for me, ask me... but
I do suggest that before you go out and attack someone that you make sure
that you are dealing with the whole truth, which the author (Brian
Rauchfuss) of the post that I saw was clearly not doing.
I and US Aviator remain fully committed to doing what no other aviation
magazine is doing... publishing aggressively honest editorial about topics
that are of concern to sport and general aviation enthusiasts.
Please excuse the interruption, but I wanted to defend myself and my
magazine as I feel that what we do is quite important... and I'd hate to
see people get the wrong idea from someone who was not in possession of the
facts.
