Airmaster NZ are about to test fly their electric constant speed hub for the
Europa.
The unit, weighing in at 19lbs complete with spinner and warp drive blades,
is a constant speed hub with advanced electronics providing a really simple
control system for the pilot. A four position switch (takeoff, climb,
cruise, feather) is turned to the selected flight mode and the CS
electronics takeover from that point on. A manual override is used to
control the prop speed on landing.
The new CNC machined hub is derived from Airmaster's Lycoming hub which is
proving to be very popular with Lancair owners. I had a look at the first
batch of units today before they went away to be painted and will take a
photo on Wednesday when they come back for posting to the group.
The units are going to be supplied with a reinforced XS spinner fully cut
and drilled and will be balanced before delivery.
Price is expected to be in the region of USD4500 complete with control
system, spinner and warp drive blades.
A comprehensive flight testing schedule on a 914 equipped XS is planned to
ensure that the unit is operational across the speed range of the Europa
before it will be made available to builders/owners.
I will keep you posted on developments.
