While contemplating in the small hours the prospect of going into the freezing
garage and hoisting G-EMIN to examine the characteristics of that red block, a
sobering thought struck me between the ayes.
Almost certainly the precompression exceeds the empty weight. (Remember all
that screwing to get the plate-to-plate distance as specified ?) If so it
will clearly not change until precompression is exceeded. It may even be
greater than AUW though this seems unlikely as it would then only be able to
cushion dynamic loads. But any significant value in between would compromise
the whole idea. (How could one seriously load baggage or fuel after crew !)
Perhaps the factory would put me out of my agony by revealing the pre-
compression figure - would suspension be too soft if it were adjusted it to
empty weight value ? Or would some kind builder with the block uninstalled,
please put a heavy weight on it and post the resulting compression.
BTW anyone know how Porsche tranmsit the tyre pressures out into the cabin ?
