Martin,
I think Nigel Beale of Skydrive, our Rotax distributor here in the UK, told
me of a similar problem some time ago. It turned out to be just as you
suspect, an incompatibility between the sender and gauge. You really ought
to use the
same make sender as gauge. Did you do this? ie. did you change the sender
to a Mitchell type too or did you leave the old VDO one in? There are
apparently, even different type senders for different range gauges from the
same manufacturer.
