Mr. Fuller:
I quite agree with your hesitation in response to the 'trade mark'
dispute, but for perhaps a different reason. I know the torture of
having put so much into a project (whether for personal financial gain
or as a contribution) only to have its effect muted by copying and
capturing by a follower. That is what some call "marketting".
However, I feel the fault lies with government (elected or no).
tHERE IS NO REASON ON EARTH why a trade name should be other than its
owner's proper name - that is the sole distinction with any depth. This
business of calling soap suds "SCMOOZE" or "LUNAR" or any other
perfectly normal anglosaxon derivative is obnoxious and insolent.
Certainly, giving it an identity which describes its use is great for
the inaugurator, but it implies it is the only device (or 'corners' the
word for exclusive gain)
entitled to the sobriquet.
I object very strongly to the patenting of common terms as names
of products - and SCAN, SCANNING and other similar words are not
exclusive to anyone - and should never have been enshrined this way. For
Heaven's sake, let's have an end to it.

Now I feel better.
