had the pleasure of a trip in Alan Thorne's 912 powered Europa G-HY yesterday,
just half an hour out of White Waltham, nice stratocu layer, good vis and
smooth. Damned if europas are not the finest handling plane around, its been a
while since i last managed a flight in one: Hopefully not too long before the
next trip....
We finished the final inspection on G-UM, all done, just some final
fettlin' for my satisfaction, but the paperwork is all signed and going off
tomorrow. What did i read somewhere about that; 'An aircraft shall not fly
until the weight of the paperwork equals or exceeds the APS weight of the
Aircraft', or was it along the lines of 'until lots of large cheques have been
paid to any organisation with the words"Flying", "Aviation" or "Insurance" in
their titles' !
Its at this point I go very quiet when the wife asks 'just how much have
you spent on that bxxxxy plane'!
My promise to her of a trip to the Channel Islands is beginning to dull with
the imminent demise of 'duty free'....
