First Flight

Subject: First Flight

Just to announce that my collection of bits (No.154) has finally left the
ground, at last.

The brave Mike Dolphin undertook to do the test flying and on Friday
13th.!! (nobody's superstitious around here, are they?) he took it up from
Enstone in Oxfordshire for it's first flight.

On Saturday 14th. at 3,000ft we suffered from a blocked fuel filter
although the tank had been flushed through from full to empty (into the
car) at least three times. Thank goodness I had done that double filter
mod. This just goes to show that even when you think the tank is clean,
bumping around up top reaches those bits the rest can't reach! It could
have been a bit depressing but the engine picked up fine when the fuel
selector was changed and we manages to clean the filter at Turweston having
made a precautionary landing. I should say that the people there could not
have been more helpful and friendly.

Anyway, there you go - you get there in the end, but do install a second
fuel filter 'cos it is nice!

Incidentally, has anyone else had the response from one's other half
-'Thank goodness, it's finished'. What do I say to explain that I have a
lifetime of fiddling with the 'plane ahead of me and that it is only the
start of the next stage?

Regards,

Peter Davis G-BYIK
