in the Video about the Voyager Project, one builder is saying that he once saw
sparks going through a fuel tank while sanding the surface. He decided not to
tell
the crew about it (who might have had a similar experience each of them anyway).
After the flight though, this fear was one of the main reasons not to perform
any
more flights with the plane but send it straight to the Smithsonian.
With the Europa I am always smiling when a fuel operator is attaching his ground
strip to my exhaust tube. If he knew that he is grounding maybe 50 cm deep of
metal (engine, mount) while the fuel system with its electrostatic charges that
build up favorably in composite structures is far behind.... ?
I cannot think however of any spots in the system that allow for bipolarity -
any
closely
opposed structures with high Voltage difference. Do you ?
