The Russ Light/ new Europa solid state stall warner measures port pressure [hole
in LE] vs static pressure.

It appears to be reliable (flaps up or down) and can be tweaked, I believe, by
altering the differential value of the pressure switch used. Looks to me that an
array (in a spiral around the LE) could be fashioned into a very simple AOA
indicator, perhaps tuned to exactly the points that you want - best ROC,  AOC,
glide, short field approach, stall and so on..
