I don't think my last appeal for information reached the net group; I am
reliably informed that the D.I.Y. high-compression conversion for the
912 is as good as the 912s, but of course Rotax won't like it when they
can sell the 912s to the gullible. The myth they have allegedly put
about is that the crankshaft/crankcase of the 912s has been
strengthened, and of course they have bored out the 's' by a nominal
amount so that we can't just buy high-compression pistons from them and
have a d.i.y. 912s. An enterprising American has marketed
high-compression pistons for the 912 and in the 'anything goes' culture
of the States we can expect realistic assessments of the result. So, can
anyone tell me the actual situation and some of our American
fellow-builders give us the low down on performance. Our registration
authorities here in the U.K. are inhibited from allowing the conversion
because of the story of the beefed-up lower end on the official 's' so
we can't expect anyone to admit to using the D.I.Y. version here.
