Hi Nigel,
Thanks for your warning on the possibility of carb icing on the Rotax 912S.
Perhaps what I should have said was that there were no known instances of
carb icing with the Europa 912 installation. In the early days, Europa
Aviation (now the Europa Aircraft Co) were fairly certain that this was the
case and I am not aware of any Europa builder who found it necessary to fit
a carb heating system. If my information is incorrect, no doubt someone will
speak up !
It would be interesting to know if anyone has conducted similar tests on
their Europa.

> NEITHER ROTAX OR OURSELVES (UK DISTRIBUTOR) HAVE EVER SAID IT DOESNT
HAPPEN. WE HAVE CARRIED OUT MANY TESTS ON OUR ARV WITH 912S ENGINE AND
UNDERCOWL CARB INTAKES. FROM MEMORY TYPICAL RESULTS IN THE CRUISE AT 2000FT
WERE AS FOLLOWS;
>
> AMBIENT TEMP 3C
> UNDERCOWL TEMP 12C
> CARB BODY TEMP -7C !!!!!!!
>
> CARB TEMP WOULD OF COURSE BE LOWER IF COLD AIR INTAKE IS USED.
