Some people (with Glasairs , RVs and the like) have used "piano hinge" 
material to fix cowlings. You just pull the pin out to release the cowling. 
It gives a very neat appearance but its not easy to achieve and a bit 
expensive. It will bend round a moderate curve but not a tight one.
