I was just talking to Jon Goldenbaum of Polyfiber. In discussion I brought
up a comment that was
seen on the group earlier about Top Gloss bubbling.
The prime cause of bubbling is the failure to let the Smooth prime fully dry
prior to applying Top Gloss. This usually occurs in moist climates and was
much more prevalant with the old system (which used Silver Shield as the UV
barrier) as moisture could stay trapped for quite some time. Most incidents
have been in the UK (which says a lot about the climate!!!).
The best technique is to apply uv smooth prime, dry sand it back (never wet
sand smooth prime) and then leave the parts in a warm place for several
weeks before applying Top Gloss.
It is also important to ensure that the surface is clean at all stages and
to do this you should always apply Prep Wipe prior to applying any paint.
Regards
Tony
