I guess that since the worm infection which was inadvertently posted
last month, most people on the list have consulted the FAQ and
sensibly switched off HTML coding for posting to this list.
However, I have been cleaning up the postings for import to my
database (over 11,500 messages stored and indexed now in a 30Mb file)
and noted messages either with attachments or in HTML from the
following addresses at some time during January. (If you've cleaned
up your act since then, my apologies for dragging your name through
the dirt!)
flying <paul-d.stewart.fly@virginnet.co.uk>
Peter Armstrong <peter@nexgen.co.nz>
Shaun Simpkins <shauns@hevanet.com>
Klaus Dietrich <Klaus.Dietrich@oracle.com>
Rob Housman <robh@hyperion-ef.com>
JLW <jeffw@Telebyte.net>
Bill McClellan <wilmac@gte.net>
Tony Krzyzewski <tonyk@kaon.co.nz>
Bob.Harrison <ptag.dev@ukonline.co.uk>
Ben Clerx <BCLERX@aol.com>
Cafe St Tropez <mail@cafesttropez.com.au>
I recognise that certain second-rate software will emit HTML when
replying to an incoming message thus coded, even when set to generate
plain text during message origination. Thus, some of the above
posters may have been unwittingly perpetuating previous posters'
formats. If anyone knows of a cure for such problems, I'd be glad to
hear of it (step-by-step recipies preferred!).
Hope you can spare the time to check your settings and make sure your
messages are not wastefully multiplied in size and offensively
unintelligible to many recipients.
Incidentally, I have managed to reconstitute the bulk of the postings
---From February, March & April 2000 that were not archived when the
list was moved to a different server. It has not been possible to
replicate the original format exactly, but all the information is
there. (I have a modified version of the program that turns it into
tab-text for database import, source available on request.) I hope to
get Moira to upload them shortly and will confirm when it has been
done.
regards
Rowland
