I have a question for the group regarding rudder hinges:
It was mentioned to me that the rudder hinges are pre-treated against
corrosion. However, after cutting the hinges, the edges are all bare aluminum.
Furthermore, during the hinge pin installation, I mounted the hinges in a
vise, and I am afraid I might have inadvertantly scratched them, removing the
corrosion treatment in some areas. Am I being overly concerned? Should I
bother treating the hinges again?
As for corrosion treatment, the Europa manual suggests alodine. I searched in
many places but only found bits and pieces of information. Is there a good
discussion of how to use alodine? (a company website perhaps?) For example,
how does it affect the strength of its bond to fibgerglass?
Thanks!!
