Dave:
Actually it's my fault. In a direct email to Kenneth Whitely I
inadvertantly used the word "Navaid" when I should have said "controller".
nevertheless the two are intertwined in all our emails - so that's why the
fuss.
I take it all back!
Your two:
" N135TD tends to oscillate slowly in altitude when the stick is
left free.
This is most noticeable when the Navaid autopilot is on, since there is a
natural tendency to keep the airplane level, without really noticing it,
when the pilot's hand is on the stick. "
"......the Navaid autopilot is a single axis system, controlling roll only.
While it
could conceivably affect pitch by large aileron inputs, the problem we see
exists even when roll is rock steady. "
My original:
"Perhaps for those of us less educated, you could "animate" the internal
circuitry of the NavAid device...? "
Kenneth:
"Fergus,
I don't know anything about the NavAid device. I was talking
generally about controllers. From the original email I thought that the
Navaid device controls altitude. Having just looked at the website I find
that it is only controlling angle of bank. My comment is thus out of place.
It is puzzling why the use of the Navaid should affect the stability of
pitch attitude. "
So I'll take the major blame. Now I've whoa-ed.
Happy landings
