I can't help with the polish question but tomorrow after I've had the 'plane
out I'll tell you the type of GPS Antenna I've fitted. It is roughly
tear-drop shape and fits into the old filler depression in the roof behind
the cockpit.
I guess the fuselage is transparent to the satelite signals but I didn't
want to collect any trash signals that might have affected the incomming
data. Having said that I used the Skyforce supplied antenna in my car all
the way to Straubing (MT Propellers) although it was on the windscreen with
the "sucker" , so I guess it would work in the a/c anyway.

Could anyone recommend a suitable non-silicone polish that is available in
the UK.

I am planning to panel mount my Skymap 3C GPS.  What is the best way to
mount the antenna?  Does one use an extension with the supplied antenna and
mount it in the fuselage or is another antenna required?
Is the fuselage 'transparent' to the GPS satellite signals.
