I had the same dilemma so I called the manufacture of my Perspex.  He
essentially said it was OK to cut a hole almost anywhere and the hole
size was not critical.  I'm using the 3 1/4" "Snap Vents"  (P/N CC3251)
---From Aircraft Spruce. These vents retract to a flush position so noise
should not be a problem.
