John,
Can I just express my thanks for your hard work getting all this sorted,
with minimal support and your own life to lead too. I'm sure it has been a
huge headache and I for one appreciate your efforts on the Club's (and the
Forum's) behalf.
Regards,
Jeremy

Subject: The Recreated Forum
The forum was set up again last night by Avnet. Let us all hope it works
better
in the future.
For the last 6 days the list has had about subscribers, which means no
deliveries to 170-odd people. If you are one of thse orphans, list traffic
has
been moderate since then, about 30 messages. These can be retrieved from
Andrew's web archive site (to which there is a link in the Miscellaneous
section
at http://www.crix.org.uk
Checking the subscriber list I see one or two names which might be
duplicates.
If you have two subscriptions after the events of the last three months you
can
unsubscribe one of them (see foot of this message) or ask me to do it
(ditto).
As a result of the list being reinitialised your personal message delivery
profile may have become lost. The two items of most interest here are an
option
to receive messages by digest (batched rather than sent immediately) and the
option to override the Reply-To header in the forum messages. This is used
commonly to ensure that when you Reply to a forum message the reply message
goes
to the message author only and not to the forum, and also to remedy the
curious
behaviour of Compuserve's mail system. So Beware ! If you rely on the
Reply-To
override, check it is still there before you use it again. If you have
remained
on the forum itself these last 3 months then I have a record of your
delivery
options and I will reset them as they were. If you were on the newforum
list, I
have no record and hence cannot reset them. To change your options, see the
FAQ
or ask me to do it for you.
If you had any aliases defined, these may have gone too.
Hoping for calmer waters .....
John Cliff
