told me just recently that if the mechanical fuel pump on the 912 fails it
will not allow fuel to flow past/through it. Can this be correct? If it is
the case that a broken mech pump blocks the fuel flow, then whatever
configuration of electric fuel pumps you may have wouldn't appear to make
any difference in this 'disaster scenario'?!

I believe Europa changed the electrical pump to one of higher pressure
because the drop in pressure through a failed mechanical pump with the
original pump prevented satisfactory engine operation. You are right that
with a series system you are vulneable to certain types of failure eg.
leakage, blockage, mech pump failure etc. This one reason why I have a
parallel system. It gives the fuel system partial redundancy as the
mechanical pump can be bypassed altogether.
