Europa-List: registration marking

I am planning the decoration & (UK) marking of my tri gear G-RIXS. I note
---From various pic's & what I have seen that the CAA rules on reg marking are
not always followed pedantically.  Just how much leeway can I take?  Can I
use italics, non standard fonts etc?  What feedback have any members who
have not stuck exactly to the 'letter of the law'?
