How about ping-pong balls - for extra flotation - or:

Helium tanks - for extra lift!

Helium has been a hot topic on board a ship off the (UK) Cornish coast for the
last couple of days, but sadly the balloon never got airborne from the launch
ship for its 25NM lift and descent attempt - scheduled to take 12 hours. It has
been postponed - but until when...?
