My D bulkhead fit in kind of funny. That is, It got bonded in place where
it fit best. I don't think you will be able to make a splash that will fit
tight enough to the fuselage and to the D bulkhead. I did not consider
doing it that way at the time, so don't know if I would have tried to do it
that way.
I did find a way to work through the D bulkhead more easily though. It was
simple. I just blocked up with plastic buckets to the height of the cut-out
and laid a piece of plywood through and then laid on it . Across the top of
the fuel tank between the headrests and the buckets. It is a little tricky
getting in and out, but I have used it sever time. ( Try adding the electric
flap servo after the baggage bay is installed!!!!!)
