As far as q.3 goes. I tapped a 1/8" NPT hole through the 'plastic' of 
the filler to take an elbow. Then made a slightly curved 'washer' from 
4mm aluminium also tapped to 1/8"NPT which goes inside the filler. The 
elbow can now be tightened hard into the filler giving a very good seal.
