You may have spotted the most probably reason for "pin slop". I've seen
quite a few Europas with excessive elevator looseness, where the builder
says he was careful (not met a lady builder yet :-( )
The trouble is that an almost imperceptible amount of movement at the pin
soon multiplies up to 1/2 inch at the trailing edge. The vibration of
taxying over lumpy ground cause hammering at the holes and it starts to get
worse quite quickly.
