I had a hard time finding insurance as well.
Europa XS Tri-Gear --
First they had down that it has a retractable landing gear. After a few
phone calls, and
a picture the price dropped down 1/2.
So In Amarillo Texas, with three people flying it, one of them with only 175
hours Total Time,
our insurance is 2,200$ a year. Each of us had to fly 5 hours with a CFI.
The CFI had never even
heard of an Europa much less fly one! However the insurance company did
approve him.

It seems that the insurance market is restricted to a couple of underwriters
who will provide coverage for experimental aircraft in the US. Also it is
still be a cost issue in that coverage would still cost about $2500.00 US
whether conventional or tri-gear.

I would suggest trying another insurer ! Or several.
Or if that doesn't work, contemplate changing to Tri-Gear.
