In the UK the weight limit has never gone beyond 1370lb. Having read
Graham's comments I wouldn't be happy to operate at higher weights unless it
was proved to be safe and suitably authorised. Perhaps someone the other
side of the Atlantic can shed light on how the US and Canadian authorities
were persuaded that higher weights were acceptable even though it is not
permitted in the UK.
