Subject: Re: Europa-List: Stainless steel Firewall
| Ferg,
| It will get worse.
| I've been sitting at the airport for the last 2 months waiting for the
| MD-RA to allow me the privilege of a temporary C of A.
| At the moment they are questioning the phenolic firewall material that
| forms part of the fuselage, and the use of the Skydrive carb heat system.
|
| If there are any Canadian registered 912S powered Europas using Skydrive
| or similar, I would appreciate hearing from them, or from anyone else who
| can confirm the efficacy of the system.
| Now with regard to your stainless steel firewall, you should not have let
| me have Graham's phenolic one. It works great, and I just don't see how
| anyone ever got the stainless cut outs to fit well.

Dave,
Thanks for your reply. I think I will ask Graham to fabricate
same to suit my modded footwell sides (Wilksch adventure).
Is the MDRA fellow not aware that the Europa kit has come from
the start as a phenolic firewall and that PFA have sanctioned the Singleton
kit?
I wonder if I will have the same trouble as you when my turn comes up - what
about precedence - Calgary, Staines etc. I will ask Graham for some
substantiating facts - such as source, test results etc. ....or have you
already done that?
Also what did you do with the throttle and choke actuator lines
going through the firewall area (my fuel line runs around the throttle box
at the top of the tunnel).
.........sorry for your delay. Be interested to follow this
chap's thinking on firewalls. It's only required to delay entry of the fuel
fire for 15 minutes I believe.
Good luck
