Aircraft insurance...what a pain in the butt.
For two years my broker of record was USAA general insurance agency and the
underwriter was AIG for my monowheel motor glider N42AH. Then USAA decided
to get out of the aviation insurance business and sold their book of
business to Falcon Insurance. Falcon was able to also quote rates also from
AIG. In the mean time I had about the program thru the SSA association. I
finally was able to get my broker of recorded changed and got a quote from
Costello www.gliderinsurance.com thru SSA group plan underwritten by AIG for
almost $500 less than before.
Give them a shout and see what they can do for you. They cover not only the
aircraft, the trailer and coverage when towing the aircraft on the trailer
and cheaper, they also will allow me to lower the rate if it is parked for
90 days in the winter. Works for me.

I couldn't even get insurance while I transported my kit, so I have decided
to go the non-insured route. Even after you pay for insurance after years on
end, when you go to file a claim, the chances of recovering your total value
lost is practically nil. When I run for president, the first two planks in
my platform will be to eliminate insurance entirely and to disbar 95% of all
lawyers, with more to follow if nescessary.

The empty weight of N108EA is 845 lbs. The prop is a prince p-tip 62"dia and
83" pitch. This was a borrowed prop from Bob Burbe at flightcrafters. I'm
having my own built at prince P-tip. It will be 62" and *82 pitch. Should be
ready in about another week or two. Zephrhills is a really nice airport with
2 long hard service runways. Both are about 4 or 5 thousand feet long.
Flightcrafters in located on the field, and that made life so much easier.
The insurance company had taken my money for five years knowing that I was
building a monnwheel. When I ask for a quote for a flying policy they
refused. No one in the US is selling policies for monowheels. I had no
choice but to change to conventional tail dragger or tri-gear. Sense I had
already gotten my tail wheel endorsement I elected to go with the
conventional gear. It's a Bob Burbe design and I'm really happy with it.
It's a ball to fly.

Many congratulations Scott. Now the fun really begins! For the records,
can you tell me the weight of the aircraft, the propeller system and the
airport details. Total build hours would be helpful too. The records show
your aircraft was a monowheel. Conventional gear is normally a standard
tail dragger. Have you converted it?
I know you would rather be flying than answering questions but it would help
future builders .

After 5 years my conventional gear Europa N108EA took to the skys over
Zephrhills Florida 16 Sep 2006. At the controls was test pilot Lee Orminick.
All went very well and I owe many thanks to the Guys at Flightcrafters for
helping me relize my dream. I have a 912s for power, Dyno EFIS, and EMS
systems, also a 2 axis auto pilot tied into a Garmin 296 GPS. Thanks again
guys!
