Bob,

Some days ago I implementes Mod 73. The original pip pins still fit
perfectly - there is even a little margin left for the balls to engage.
However I didn't put the 10 mm masking tape to cover the hole, as I wanted
the bid layers to bond everywhere possible to TP6. No problem at all for the
disassembly: Good greasing of all metal parts that should not bond made the
disassembly easy and simple after curing of the layups.

I am working now on Mod 74: Taking off the "old" wing pins was by far the
most difficult part. I definitly know now that these pins (bonded in with
Redux as instructed in my manual) were good enough for any load you can
think of in this part of the aircraft structure. After this experience I am
pretty shure that in my case - Mod 52 is installed - the aircraft would have
been totally safe without Mod 74 - but it is mandatory and is now
implemented. And I would not have known that the "old" wing pins were so
perfectly bound to the wing structure if I hadn't taken them out .....

Good luck, cheers
Alfred

Betreff: Europa-List: Europa Mandatory Mod 73 - re -use of original Pip-Pins
through the TP4 and TP6's

Fellow builders

My study of Mod 73 tells me that we are to put a 10mm piece of masking tape
on the underneath face of the TP6's to cover the hole and then two layers of
bid (1" squares) perhaps added to some dregs of dry flox used to fill the
corners of the hole in the skin, and then another two layers of bid from the
8" squares of bid that keep the TP 6 in place.

When I put a pip-pin throught the dry TP6 there appeared to be about 1.5mm
of clearance to the protruding balls.

As I am ready to lay glass, My question is please ---------

Has anyone done the Mod 73 Job and been able to still use their original pip
pins?

In other words - is it worth striving to keep cover over the TP6 as thin as
possible?
Or is it just impossible to retain use of the original pip pins?

Sincerely

filling them.
