Europa-List: Extra thickness where cowl top and bottom meet

Whats the best way to handle the extra thickness where the top and bottom cowl
over lap and bolt onto the firewall side. The extra thickness looks naff. I was
going to bolt through them both but I could remove the lower cowl for an inch
or so and bolt through the top or bolt through both by making a slot in the
fuselage about an 1/8th deep. Views?
