If your CS10 is dark brown/black then it will not have been plated. The
steel components were shipped with this oil finish up to about 2002/3 when
Europa started plating them (the gold finish).
The oil finish will prevent some corrosion but a better solution is to clean
and paint the component. As your end caps are already in place try and
ensure you do not get any acid cleaner inside the tube. This will corrode
the MS21047 anchor nut and could make future removal difficult. Almost any
paint system designed for steel will do.
