Subject: Classic fuel filler pipes being made
Neville,
After I had got the pipe and was writing up the mod for Francis I asked
Atlas Tube Bending what the spec of the alloy was and they said 6063 T6,
and I didn't know enough to query it. The alloy I have was slightly
dented at the ends when it arrived suggesting that it was quite soft,
and it may be that Atlas quoted the wrong number. The mod approval only
says 'suitable' aluminium pipe, and I can't believe that the spec you
are suggesting would not be acceptable without making it a new mod. I
attach the mod approval from which you will see that it is only a minor
mod. I assume that you have my write up of the mod
I paid Atlas =A3114, which included postage. They left quite a bit of
extra length at each end which made adjustment to suit any individual
aircraft easy. Presumably you used my drawing number 2 to get your
steel pipe made, which was very slightly different from the first
drawing which I actually used. I hoped the second drawing would produce
a pipe which was a slightly better fit, although my one has installed
perfectly satisfactorily. Was your pipe a good fit?
