Someone suggested checking the connection at top of cobra and fuel cap.
I found I had a slight leak there that would randomly seep at fill time from the
fuel sloshing around and finding it's way in at that point, drove me crazy could
smell it but couldn't see it. I resealed and bought one of those flexible
fuel extenders that fits over the end of your portable fuel tank nozzle. It's
about 12 inches long and allows me to push it down the cobra a few more inches
so the fuel doesn't slosh around the fitting when fueling up. I bought mine
in the auto section at Walmart I think. But you should find them anywhere they
sell portable fuel tanks.
Some day I will get in and make a better seal, but for now, no leak and no
smell.

smell was there - and became very strong and off putting when I was trying
sideslips. Tank was about half full. I do not think it can be due to fumes
permeating
through the tank wall. When I had a look up inside the the under - fuselage
panel, I could not see any evidence of fuel leakage. The tank did not look
wrinkled or warped. Could there be a vent leaking somewhere? Does an aluminium
tank have the same problem? What I really need is an idea of cost and time
to fix it.
