Thanks Barry, I will have a look at those silicone hoses.
Today I did a more in-depth examination, and it turned out that (instead of the
rubber joining the tank and aluminium elbow of the filler) the rubber joint
between
fuel-return line/tank breather and the tank was the one leaking.
After taking that rubber off, I noticed that appr. 30% (!) of the inner-lining
was having severe cracks. No wonder the smell of fuel had increased lately, and
it started to leak...
Hopefully the smell fuel will be gone (or substantially decreased) now I have
a new rubber joint in place...
A valuable lesson learnt: make sure rubber hoses are in tip-top shape, if in
doubt,
replace them! I will still have to replace the rubber joint between tank
and aluminium elbow of the filler, if only because I am not 100% sure of the
condition
of it's inner lining and I don't have records of when this was replaced
last...
