Thanks for the suggestion Bob, although the part priced at $59.90 in the 
Aircraft
Spruce catalogue is P/N 10-00700. I've no doubt that after adding shipping
and UK import taxes and duties, the price landed at my door will be almost 
double
that.

So anybody out there within the UK, please point me towards a surface-mounted 
balance
ball of the narrow horizontal type. Thanks.
