Europa-List: Painting Main Landing Gear

The MLG legs as provided by Europa have a black coating. Is this some kind of 
corrosion
protection, or do the legs need to be painted even if covered with a
speed kit?

If so, what kind of paint is recommended? Does the black coating have to be 
removed
and what is the best way to do that?
