My vertex 710 also works fine with my Lightspeed Zulu and a rubber ducky 
antenna,
thought the range is limited.  On the Vertex, the headset cord adapter is a
rigid, rugged screw-in

Exactly what is the problem you are having? Is it the speakers, the mike, the 
PTT?

What was the company's response when you complained?
