Jerry,
I guess you are under EAA rules but be aware that any modification to the U/C
would
require significant amounts of work to comply with the UK (LAA rules).
Typically
this would involve analysis and testing. Both the leg and the mounting
structure are affected.
I designed a new main landing gear for the CFM Shadow/Streak some years ago,
this
changed the aircraft static ground attitude enough to warrant a series of flight
trials as well.
The EAA system means you avoid of lot of these issues, however, you do still
need
to check that you have adequate margins.
