A few days ago approaching an airport about 10 miles out 2,000 agl, 135 knots,
a sudden high pitched whine started and got my immediate attention, to say the
least! Slowed down, at 107 knots noise went away. noise came from rear, not
engine,
every thing normal up front, seemed speed associated. Spent next few days
crawling all over looking for something the air could be causing. Test flew
several times after a possible fix, no luck. discovered noise was most intense
over fuel tank area! Finally decided to blow out fuel vent, discovered bug parts
in vent, not so much to fully block but to create a not so nice musical screamer
107 knots plus.
So the little critter slammed into that tiny vent at 2,000 feet! What are the
odds?
I did consider a bug had got into the vent on the ground and then got pushed
further
into vent, however I keep the vents covered on the ground so think that
was unlikely.
All is well now but wanted to share, thought this was a strange one.
I did learn during this process that your iPhone does a great job looking in
areas
one just cant see, pics with the flash. I have many photos of areas that would
be very difficult to see even with mirrors.
Glad this one is over!
