One of the reasons I (and my passenger) wear a chute. 2800ft would be about a 
hight
having a pretty good chance to bail out (BTW might well be, that the Extra
pilot did wear one as well, since it's an aerobatic airplane).

@David - good that you still have the possibility to post this experience here.
