Mike and all,
On my website in the techniques section of my website is a complete checkli
st using both the FAA required Annex D Inspection format and includes the E
uropa POH and the items I have found over the last 20 years that need to be
inspected. It is in pdf format but I can send a MS excel spreadsheet for
you to modify for your own aircraft. There are even spare parts lists for
most of you. I just updated it again this year and frequently update my ch
ecklists. Watch my website. I=92m old, and no longer the Europa dealer, s
o I am not limited on what goes on my site, and have no limitations on what
and why I can say.

Mike, for you I am including in this email the file for the Jabiru notes on
maintenance items I have on Jabiru and your specific SBs I compiled on you
r visit but there are way too many to put in an email if you lost the disk
I did for you I can send a drop box file. I=92m sure I gave you all this w
hen you were here a couple years ago when we did your cooling mods. You co
uldn=92t stay for the flight test, but I think I provided you with my fligh
t test cards also. On an annual, I gave you an older 2013 annual checklist
I used for basic annual flight testing and attached that.
A condition inspection is airframe, engine and avionics. Don=92t be a Snoo
py pilot from the comics =93I check the instruments and they are all there
=94. Same with the engine and airframe. Just because it is all there, doe
sn=92t mean it is in the same condition as installed and working OK.
Your engine inspection is documented by your engine manufacturer. Look the
inspection and maintenance checklists up and copy them to your inspection
file. Keep in mind, Jabiru mixes their aircraft inspection and engine insp
ection manuals which is the pits.
Your avionics/ELT also have inspection and installation documentation as we
ll as SBs, SIs and updates to data bases. Do them also. I have a complete
list of all the pdf documents for every item installed in an airplane that
comes in for an annual, and those that require periodic maintenance I keep
in a file on my computer for each aircraft inspected also.
The Airframe inspection is not just a flashlight inspection. The manufactu
rer will have a list of things in the POH or other manuals if they are wort
h a crap. Not all do. Remember, if the inspection document is 20 years ol
d, and never updated, that becomes your responsibility as the Builder/maint
ainer/mechanic to make it current for your aircraft. Again, it is easy to
do a spreadsheet of SBs, letters etc.
Mike,
For your Jabiru see above I have a list of spares: Word doc "Europa Aircra
ft Maintenance Parts Annual XS Jabiru Only.doc=94 above. Also, be sure t
o look up annually, all your SBs, SLs and Sis on your engine from the Jabir
u website. A typical inspection spreadsheet I use is attached. Euorpa=92s
are updated infrequently but are there.
To all: If you all would like my website to have downloadable word or exce
l files let me know and I will update it to include those excel files for y
ou to modify as you see fit for your particular aircraft.
For second hand owners, I hate to say that you are in a real pickle. Most
mechanics certified to inspect aircraft are remove and replace specialists.
They do not know the aircraft, many are computer illiterate or just lazy
and do not go on the web to find the inspection checklists to inspect the e
ngine/airframe/avionics IAW the actual manufacturer=92s guidelines. But th
ey are cheap. If you find a good mechanic willing to do the research, stic
k with him and learn your aircraft. If you just want to fly, you will be
disappointed that there is always something wrong. Most of the time, it sh
ould have been caught on the inspection.
If you do periodic maintenance, by the book, comply with the SBs /Mods as a
ppropriate, document it, and flight test it and record the data, your plane
is going to be safer, more reliable, and retain its value. Every time I f
ly, I keep a file on my cell phone of discrepancies. Paint chips, heat mar
ks, static in the headset (moisture problems down here), tire pressure leak
s requiring a new tube/valve, CHT or EGT changes. So I have a list on annu
al of things to inspect and repair as necessary. Makes the inspection easy
to do. There are plenty of junky airplanes out there that drag the price
of used planes down because once built, the plane was never improved, updat
ed or frankly kept up. I am not kind to those who let things go expecting
them to get better. If let go, things get worse. We all suffer because of
this, so do your inspections, spend the time to document the plane and the
recurring maintenance inspections are a breeze.
Best Regards,
Bud Yerly

Subject: Inspection List
Good day all,
I have looked in my builder=92s manual, the Europa website, and the owner
=92s Forum and cannot seem to find where anyone has come up with an Inspect
ion List for the 50 hour and 100 hour inspections. I would really not like
to reinvent the wheel, nor want to miss any item, so I was wondering if the
re is a generic inspection list available that I can adjust for my particul
ar Europa? My plane is an XS Conventional gear but will work with any Europ
a type.
Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.
