Shelbyville, IN (KGEZ) Fly-In Sept 30, 2023
There was a gathering of Europa enthusiasts at Larry Boggs hangar at KGEZ to
admire
his project, enjoy good food and share Europa stories. The weather at KGEZ
was VFR but local fog at home forced us to drive and fog delayed Brian Leverson
with his Taylorcraft, so not really a Europa Fly-In. I had really looked forward
to giving lots of rides because many folks in attendance have not had a
ride in a Europa.
There were six Europa builders and two others that are thinking about starting
projects. Having a chance to see how the kit goes together was useful for them.
Everyone exchanged ideas and experiences and there were a lot of questions.
Other attendees included quite a few friends, family members and even 4 dogs,
all of whom had a great time getting acquainted.
Larry is well along building his Classic with a turbo Subaru. He has run the
engine
and developed ducting for oil cooler and intercooler and a P-51 style coolant
duct. The custom carbon cowl was just completed. Preliminary ground runs
have been successful.
He has a beautiful large hangar which he shares with an RV8, RV9 and RV10 and a
Carbon Cub. KGEZ is a nice county airport without a lot of traffic. Larry and
Kim prepared a wonderful lunch with grilled burgers and hot dogs and many
delicious
side dishes. They want to repeat this fly in come Spring, hopefully with
some Europa aircraft flying in.
