Dick Rutan--yes, _that_ Dick Rutan--was at one point maintenance officer of an
F-100 squadron in the UK, meaning that he got the make all the maintenance test
flights. A mechanic had dropped the little SOAP (spectroscopic oil analysis
program) bottle into the oil tank, but rather than tell anyone he just got
another bottle...
...no problem until Dick rolled the airplane. At zero G, the suction of
the oil pump pulled the bottle in over the oil delivery standpipe. Result:
first, expensive noises, second a quick return to base, third an ejection on
short final when the engine seized up, fourth even more expensive noises...
